Nomsa's discovered the freedom of natural hair!

Name: Nomsa Mhlontlo

When and why did you go natural?

I went natural in December 2012 so I've been natural for a year and 5 months. I went natural after suffering really bad damage and breakage from dyeing my relaxed hair. It was never the same after that, I still had length but my hair was very thin.

Did you transition or big cop?

I trasitioned for 4 months, couldn't handle the 2 textures and big chopped. What is your hair type?My hair is coarse, dense and very tightly coiled. It's definitely 4c.

How did others (friends, family, and colleagues) react to your decision to go natural?

My husband was very supportive, my mom was totally against it in the beginning but now she always says she wishes she had my hair. A lot of people that were against it in the beginning are in love with it now.

What is your current regimen?

I can't say I have a solid regimen, I'm still experimenting. If my hair is really dirty I do a mud wash ( bentonite clay, honey, aloe vera juice, apple cider vinegar, coconut oil, lavender oil, warm water). I cowash with Tresemme Naturals or As I am coconut cowash once a week. I "LOC" with As I am leave-in (it's the bomb.com for detangling), i seal with olive oil, coconut or castor oil and I follow with As I am double butter cream. I deep condition twice a month with Aussie moist 3 minute conditioner or with greek yoghurt, honey, olive oil, Tresemme Naturals (inspired by BBK Super Natural) .

What are your holy grail products?

Water, coconut oil, olive oil, Tresemme conditioner and As I am products, they leave my hair so soft and moisturized.

What do you like the most about natural hair/being natural?

I love that it's my own hair, it's versatile and unique to me. I hope more of our sistas discover the freedom of natural hair.

To all my natural sistas, enjoy every length of your journey. I think we become so obsessed with length that we forget to enjoy every stage of our natural hair journey
